Help I've been invaded!!!!

Well the family is home. I really enjoyed spending time with them at their home away from home (Emma Lake Summer retreat). But now they are home.

It took some getting used to, going from piece and quite to mad mayhem. Man, is my family is loud!!

While the family was away I did a little work on the house, not as much as i would have liked though. It is surprising that once you are alone with free time, everyday seems to be busier that with the family is around. I don't think I got home before 8 any day that they were away. Thus only the bedroom was painted and new furniture from my grandma moved in. It was very nice to finally have a dresser for mom and mom (I was going to say dad, but really, I have 3 of 15 drawers).

So didn't get all the Reno’s done I wanted to, I am making it up now. Not a free weekend in site till spring 2007. I started with helping Ernie mud and tape the drywall in his basement, which was not too bad, except we were taping a strip 4 feet high all around his basement. That was back wrenching, but worth the lunch that Felicia made.

The next weekend I finally finished the eaves troughs, by doing the front of the house. It ended being a challenge. Up and down the ladder, putting up a section and them taking it off when i bent a section. If you want a way to cure you fear of heights, put up eaves troughs by leaning frontward over the edge of the roof and trying to screw wood screws into sheet metal, while holding up the eaves at the same time. It cured mine. I finally finished the eaves later the same week.

Next was onto the doors. After a week of pricing out doors I arrived at deciding on Rona pre hung doors. I spent a day off on Wednesday and started the morning with Mahlon doing some errands and picking up the doors. He is my big helper, when I put the doors in separate carts I was thinking how I would get them to the van. Mahlon volunteers to push one. So down the isle we go, me and may cart, and Mahlon with his. It was cute as you could not see him, just the cart moving down the isle behind me. I was going to make him load the doors in the van with me but a Rona employee volunteered.

We finally got home in the early afternoon, which sucked in 2 ways. 1. I missed having lunch with the kids on their first day of school, which Aphra scolded me for. 2. I had less time in the day to get the door done. Oh ya, 3. I did finish with my errands.

I got one door done that afternoon. It didn’t go as bad as expected, I moved a wall that wasn't supposed to move and only screamed at Anne once to come and rescue me.

Since I finished the door as 7:30 I thought I could run back to the city and get the rest of my errands done. So Mahlon and I jumped back in the van to get a BBQ and TV. I had to get them while they were on sale and they still have them.

After getting home and plugging in the TV for the crew to goggle over, I could not rest and leave that BBQ sit in its box all night. We need it set up for our first BBQ after work tomorrow. I need to set it up tonight, really when would I have time to do it after work tomorrow. So I set it up in the dark, by the back door until 12:30am. I was very pleased to have it done.

This past weekend, like the past were crazy as well. My dad came to visit grandma and stayed with us for the weekend. Friday I was going to start the doors, but I was talked into getting a sitter and going with Anne to get dad. I was nice to go on a little date with my beautiful Anne. Dad’s plane was late so we drove around the airport and I showed her what was what. Then we parked and watched planes land. Anne thinks it’s funny that we parked. It was just nice to sit and talk and re-equate ourselves with each other.

So did and I wend golfing Saturday afternoon to Cottonwood, which was fun. Then I retuned home to do door number 2. This door took me longer to do as with old houses, there you always come across challenges. But it is fun to overcome them and succeed I your endeavors.

All that remains on the doors is to paint them and put up the trim and brick mold. Then it will either onto the back entry way to door the flooring and paint or the kitchen to do the counter top and sink.
